Company Overview

Mayur Uniquoters Limited is a large coated-textile manufacturer producing footwear upper, insole, and lining materials at a scale of 1.3 million linear metres a year. Its raw materials span nine categories — fabric, plasticiser, paper, solvent, lacquer, resin, powder, PVC, and chemicals — all domestically sourced within India.
The company is among the largest employers in the cohort, with 465 permanent staff and over 1,100 contract workers at its Jaitpura operations. Having built automotive-grade quality systems (it supplies coated fabrics well beyond footwear), Mayur carries an unusually mature certification and management-systems culture into the footwear supply chain.
The Challenge
Performance. Proof. Recognition
Mayur’s challenge was one of consolidation rather than capability. It held an exceptional portfolio of management-system certifications and a Net Zero commitment, but these credentials sat across separate frameworks and audiences. A single ESG rating that reflected its industry-leading systems and could stand up to scrutiny from footwear and automotive customers alike would turn a scattered set of certificates into one comparable credential.
OUR APPROACH
Evidence. Measure. Benchmark.
Build To Sustain applied the SIM framework across both data layers, with particular attention to Mayur’s certification portfolio and climate commitments – verifying each against documentary evidence rather than accepting the claims at face value.
The assessment used the same evidence-first, gated scoring as for every supplier, ensuring Mayur’s scale did not distort comparisons: large absolute figures (energy, waste volumes) were treated as context, while the score rested on practices, intensity, and governance
EXECUTION
Validate. Rate. Certify.
Mayur completed the assessment with strong supporting evidence, particularly on the governance and safety pillars. Its five management-system certifications were verified, its ISO 45001 OHS system confirmed, and its Net Zero 2050 commitment (with SBTi alignment in progress) recorded. The Jaitpura facility’s zero-liquid-effluent status was gated appropriately.
The output was a full scorebook and a Gold-tier certificate, with governance scoring a perfect 20/20.
EXECUTION
The Assessment in Detail
Mayur Uniquoters was rated Gold with an overall score of 78/100, third in the cohort. Its governance and social performance were exceptional; its materials-stewardship score was the main drag, reflecting a low recycled/bio-based content typical of coated-textile production.
Pillar scorecard
| Energy & Climate | Water & Effluent | Waste & Circularity | Materials & Product | Health & Safety | Labour & Social | Governance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11/15 | 9/10 | 10/12 | 2/13 | 13/15 | 13/15 | 20/20 |
DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS
Environment 64/100
Solar energy (around 3.5% of total), formal GHG tracking with reported Scope 1+2 emissions, water metering with STP reuse for horticulture, rainwater harvesting, and a formal waste policy with intensity tracking. Materials stewardship is the weak point at 2/13, reflecting low recycled and bio-based content.
Social 87/100
An ISO 45001-certified OHS system, an annual training calendar, PPE per work instructions, documented emergency plans, and full LTIFR/TRIR tracking. Comprehensive welfare benefits including ESI and PF; no labour disputes in three years. Female representation is low at around 1.3%
Governance 100/100
A perfect score anchored by an exceptional five-certification portfolio – ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, IATF 16949, and ISO 27001 – plus BIS product certification, full ethics frameworks, ESG reporting, third-party audits, and a Net Zero 2050 commitment.

STANDOUT STRENGTHS
- The strongest certification portfolio in the cohort: five management-system certifications spanning quality, environment, safety, automotive, and information security.
- An ISO 45001-certified safety system with a full 13/15 on Health & Safety and comprehensive statutory welfare benefits.
- A Net Zero 2050 commitment with SBTi alignment in progress – a forward climate posture rare among suppliers of its type
Improvement Roadmap
The assessment translates into a prioritised set of next steps – the fastest, highest-impact routes to a stronger rating:
| Focus area | Recommended action |
|---|---|
| Materials & Product (2/13) | The single largest opportunity: raise recycled and bio-based content and pursue product carbon footprinting, which would lift the environmental dimension substantially. |
| Renewable energy | Expand the solar share well beyond its current ~3.5% to strengthen Energy & Climate. |
| Safety outcomes | Reduce the lost-time-injury count to convert a certified safety system into a stronger safety record. |
Key Takeaways
- Mayur Uniquoters earned Gold, with the highest governance credentials of any supplier assessed (a perfect 20/20).
- Its certification portfolio and Net Zero commitment give it a ready-made ESG credibility that the rating now quantifies and benchmarks.
- Materials circularity and renewable-energy expansion are the clearest routes to a higher score.
