Sustainability claims your guests can check

ESG for hotels, resorts and homestays: verified SIM ratings, waste records ready for the SWM Rules 2026 and a carbon number per property.

What hotels, resorts and homestays are being asked

Each question says who asks it and why now, and links to the service that answers it.

Regulatory positions reviewed September 2026.

01

Guests and booking partners

Can guests check the sustainability claims you make?

A SIM rating is verified on site against bills, records and the property itself, and unanswered questions score as unanswered, never as assumed. The certificate gives guests and partners something to check.

02

Municipal and hill authorities

Are your waste streams segregated and recorded?

The Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 name hotel chains as bulk waste generators, and hill and island authorities can levy environmental user fees on tourists.

03

A buyer or bank

What is your property’s carbon footprint?

Scope 1 is diesel in generators, LPG and fuel in vehicles; Scope 2 is grid power. A first inventory for a single site with reasonable records takes 6-10 weeks.

What a property assessment checks

Where certification fits, we recommend a pathway such as GRIHA, IGBC or EDGE; we do not certify.
